Murphy B40 (Murphy Radio of Welwyn Garden City, U.K)
built for naval use to replace the classic Marconi CR100's series.
Single-conversion superhet
receiver with two RF stages and three IF
stages with IF pass bands of 8 kc/s (wide) and 3 kc/s
(narrow) It is truly a 'boatanchor' as it weighs in at over 50kg
(110lb)!
It was literally built like a battleship
for battleships and integrates the radar interference suppression (RIS)
technology of the day.
Continuously tuneable from 600 odd KHz to 30MHz across 5 switched bands,
500 kHz IF and a crystal filter. Customers
included the following navies, HMS, Royal Australian & Royal New
Zealand. Clean front panel, appears unmolested apart from power cord
change, some rust on cabinet. Lights up, no further tests done but I
understand first r.f stage is faulty and I have no inclination to heft
this mammoth up onto the bench only a few months after elbow surgery so
out it goes. Sold as-is. Pickup only on this one sorry.

870
Ship Cabin receiver, clean original condition inside, some paint
loss by way of chips and scratches outside and incorrect tuning knob.
Works on some bands, Bands that don't work will need RF coil repairs as they will been
damaged by the case trying to be installed upside down!. The top has a
1/2" lip that hits the cap screws breaking the phenolic base and coil
wire but pretty easy repair. Incidentally this is the third one Ive seen
with damage or repairs here. Supplied
without power cable. see below for specs |

510kHz to 24MHz in four other bands. This receiver was not considered a
communications receiver, as it was used solely for entertaining the
ship's crew. |
