Bakelite Repair Example

Before

After
Those who have tried to glue bakelite will have found that no modern glues are really up to the task. This repair has been carried out using stocks of a old stock proprietary bakelite solvent cement to which I add custom formulations of bakelite dust and color tints. Unit is then finely polished on a cotton buffing wheel.

The example here which took less than 30 minutes, can be perfected further by using woodgrain wax filler crayons in the cracks before a final hand polish with paraffin oil. This was not done on this example.
Tip: DO NOT attempt to clean a broken or cracked bakelite piece until AFTER it has been repaired.
